Clinton Beck Biography

Edmonton Infamous Poker Players Penalty Box

This page will be dedicated to poor sportsmanship and gross misconduct that I witness at the poker table.  I am writing about these happenings more as an information recourse for young players on how not to behave at a poker table.

Poker is a game. "It's supposed to be fun!"

I was taught how to play poker bye my Grand Parents.  Poker is a game.  It should be fun for the player as well as everyone at the table.  I can tell you that if I behaved like some of the people I see playing regularly at the Casino I would have been kicked out of my grandparents home game.

The greatest penalty, and most hilarious has to go to Edmonton Poker Legend "Tony Montana"

Well how can we have a penalty page in Edmonton without starting with The Legend himself Tony Montana who is infamous for pulling his penis out at a table and sticking it in another mans ear.  My wife Carla was a dealer and saw the ruckus.  This has to be the most famous and hilarious poker penalty of all time.  I don't think we ever have to worry about this happening ever again.  I have talked to players and dealers from across the country and nothing really compares to this.  Tony received a permanent ban from the Argyle and Yellow Head Casino.  He is a super funny guy and has supposedly calmed down in recent years.  I have only known him for the past few years so I can only imagine what kind of character he was in his younger days.  He is a great guy to play poker with and a definite character at the table.  His stories are fantastic and if you want an entertaining game join his table.  Just wear ear plugs.

Unsportsmanlike conduct penalty goes to "The Worm!"

Well I had the displeasure of watching someone whom I actually enjoy playing with pull a very dirty move.  The worm as he is affectionately known is a super good player.  He is young and aggressive and super talented.  He has a bad habit of saying things that are inappropriate and nasty and heart peoples feelings.  Not many people like playing him because of his manners.

I am giving him a penalty for the following move.  It was legal but it was very dirty and very unsportsmanlike.  The worm was sitting at one end of the table and a very friendly Cambodian player was at the other end.  They were in a pot and it was getting fairly large.  They both had good hands obviously.  On the river the Cambodian player bet $150.00.  The worm was taking his time thinking about it.  He cut out $150.00 out of his stack and grabbed the chips and made a move that looked like he called but the chips never actually crossed the line.  The Cambodian player flipped his cards over thinking a call was made.  The worm then notified everyone that he did not call.  The dealer even thought it was a call but in fact the chips were not across the line.  It was deliberately done as a fake move.  This was a dirty trick play and very unsportsmanlike.

Game Misconduct "Korean Jay"

Well, this player should know better.  He is a great poker player and a very passionate player.  I like playing with him.  One does need to control himself at the poker table.  "Poker is a game and its supposed to be fun"  Our Korean friend was in one of his moods.  You can tell because its written all over his face what kind of a day he is having.  He was in a hand with "Tony the Tiger" and these two players have some bad blood going back a few years and I know they are not close friends.  Tony won the hand.  Jay picked up some chips and threw them at Tony.  They sailed over his head hitting the wall behind.  Last month he through a piece of chicken against the wall.  Jay may I suggest yoga and meditation.

Sleazy was Easy!

Well I guess some players will try anything.  This unsportsmanlike conduct penalty goes to some little dweeb whom I have never played before.  He is one of those players who comments continually on how poor all the players are at the table.  He complained about some of the new dealers.  He had a big chip on his shoulder from the time he sat down.  After about an hour I was in a big hand with him.  I limped with AK.  We were both doing mild angling to each other anytime we were in a hand together.  The river came giving me an A.  He checked to me and I said, "I missed so I guess I have to bet to win".  He immediately jumped up called a houseman over to have my hand called dead for angling.  All the players including the dealer were witness to the previous hour of angling between us.  The ruling ended in my favor and I won the hand.  He wins a sleazy unsportsmanlike conduct award for showing how low a player can go.  He busted out an hour later after losing about $600.00.  Its great how Karma always takes over and makes things right.

I didn't inhale.

This penalty goes to Century Casino for the way it has dealt with an incident that involved one poker player and two housemen and a marijuana cigarette.  I agree that Century Casino needed to take action after the three involved were caught smoking a joint on company property.  The 20 year old poker player who was involved has received a lifetime suspension from the Casino & Poker Room.  This penalty is way over board in my opinion.  This Kid is a super friendly player.  He exhibits great sportsmanship and is a joy to have at the table.  Century is his favorite poker room and all his friends play poker there.  Other people only get 3 month suspensions for fighting.  Other players have received 3 month suspensions for similar infractions.  I hope that the powers at Century will review its their decision and give the kid another chance.  We may be starting a petition to get him reinstated as a welcome player at Century.  Hopefully it wont be necessary.
